My nose is running

This week has been a whirlwind of special activities for “Christmas”, although we are technically in the Advent season and not Christmas. Christmas itself is “only” 2 weeks long (more than enough to celebrate the essential in my opinion).
With time, I’m afraid I’m becoming more and more of a Christmas Grinch. Not because I don’t like Christmas itself, far from it, it is the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior, but because of all the bullshit that surrounds it. Who said that suddenly in December we all had to have a “Christmas” diner (with the co-workers), a “Christmas” social (pot-luck with church), a “Christmas” gift-exchange (at work), plus another concert here and there with carols, lessons, etc.?
Don’t get me wrong, I like concerts and I like giving gifts. I just don’t like the pressure of having to do all this at the same time during the month of December. Why can’t we feel as much thankful during, say, the month of June? When the sun is shining and I don’t feel so crappy because of the lack of sunlight, the snow, and this stupid cold that I always get when all of the above is combined?
